The point of this blog is to share my thoughts about what it means to be a living an outdoor life. A "gumby" is an beginner climber.

2008 San Jose Half Marathon
Today, I ran this race for the second time. It is a well organized race with something for everybody, from world class runners to walkers, everybody can get something out of this race. My goal for this race was to improve on last year's time of 1:29. I have to say miles 7-10 were pretty grim, trying to maintain my pace. But, I accomplished my goal with a time of 1:28, not a huge breakthrough, but I am a year older. Training has been going well. Enough about me, I'd love to hear from other runners, especially if you raced this weekend.

I ran the Bridge-to-Bridge 7k in SF! I had to walk up the hill at Fort Mason, but overall,I think I did quite well. It is my first 7k!
Good for you! If you live in the city, you've lots of opportunities to train on hills and after a while it won't seem so hard. One thing I like to see runners do on the hills is to keep the head up. If you let your head drop and look at the ground, your chest crunches up and your breathing is restricted which makes it even harder to go up the hill. So, keep an even pace and keep that head up!
